Study among C/PHNs in 10 states exploring accreditation (FL, IN, IL, KS, MI, MN, MO, NC, OH, WA) to examine their perceptions of their work and their workplace with respect to  empowerment, commitment, and intent to leave. With a response rate of 76% (478/624) to a pen and paper survey, those community nurses revealed that:

  • Of the 70% of respondents who are in the age groups over 45 years, 1/3 indicated that they are planning to leave within one year. Furthermore, almost half (46%) of those 35-45 years are looking into leaving and almost 40% of those 56-65 years are thinking about leaving.
  • Younger C/PHNs (22-34 yrs., 35-45 yrs) are more likely to be looking into leaving the job, while a greater number of those 56-66+ are thinking about leaving.
